F.Y.I. The first 10 days and the last 10 days of any month are the most requested. If you're planning to relocate during this time, it is best to make your reservation at least 9-15 days in advance. WHEN POSSIBLE, MOVE ON A WEEKDAY when the utility companies are open, that way if you arrive at your new home and your phone/water/electric is not working properly, you can call for assistance.
If you choose to do your own packing, you will save time and money by being ready when the movers arrive. Packing is a time consuming task and can easily become overwhelming. When possible, it's a good idea to pack a few boxes each day. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO TAPE EVERY BOX CLOSED, this will prevent the contents from falling out and will allow the movers to stack the boxes tightly in the truck, preventing shifting and/or damage during transport.
Be specific: MARK EACH BOX WITH THE NAME OF THE ROOM
WHERE YOU WANT THE BOX PLACED
. (EXAMPLE: kitchen, master bedroom, garage, etc.) Avoid labeling the box with the contents (EXAMPLE: CD's, can goods, shoes, etc.) Simple labeling allows your movers to know where each box belongs without delaying the project to ask for instructions.
WARDROBE BOXES (PORTABLE CLOSETS) ARE WORTH THE MONEY! Most clients that are moving locally from a home/apartment/condo can save money by renting wardrobes rather than purchasing them. There's a simple trick to determine how many you will need: Hold your arm out, notice the length between your wrist and shoulder, the wardrobes are approximately the same width…so if your closet is three arm lengths you will need approximately three wardrobes.
Temperatures in the moving truck can be extremely hot/cold, it is best to TRANSPORT LIVE PLANTS in an open bed truck or an air conditioned vehicle.
It's a GOOD IDEA TO PACK A BOX OR TOTE OF THINGS YOU MAY NEED RIGHT AWAY at your new home (cleaning supplies, sheets, towels, toiletries and a change of clothes). If you have small children, individual size snacks & juices will come in handy.
CHILDREN AND THE FAMILY PET(S) may become nervous or scared when the movers arrive and can easily get out through an open door. If you're moving within one hour of your old home/apartment consider leaving the pets and/or children with a sitter.
For insurance compliance, YOUR MOVERS CANNOT HANDLE / TRANSPORT: cash, coins, weapons, jewelry, plasma TV's, copiers, bank checks, grand pianos, unprotected glass / marble / ceramic items, fuel, prescription drugs, spas, regulation size game tables (For your convenience and protection we rent & sell glass packs).
MORE WAYS TO SAVE MONEY : Move items you don't want professionally packed (Examples: lamp shades, personal computer, glass, art, live / artificial plants & flower arrangements). Most of these items can be transported in the average car / truck. |
